Use A Large Radius Tool or A Small Radius Tool

Using a tool with large radius can reduce the residual ridge height and achieve a better surface quality. But a new problem has arisen: many workpieces need to be finished with narrow gaps and cannot be machined with large-radius tools.


 Large radius tool finishing:

Advantage:
1.Smaller residual ridge height
2.Shorter cycle times


Disadvantage:
1.Can’t machine small clearance areas
2.Easy to interfere, complicated to program

 



Small radius tool finishing:

Advantage:
Easy to program
Can be machined into small clearance areas


Disadvantage:
To achieve better surface quality, it is necessary to reduce the step size and increase the toolpath density.
Longer processing times.
